This is Jill Strawbale House, near Strontian. It's a round, strawbale house, so it looks quite different. It's detached, up on a hill, with a big view south over Loch Sunart. The photos are accurate.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own shower rooms. One is on the ground floor, the other is up a spiral staircase. The stairs are metal and spiral, so they're not for everyone. There's also a ground floor wet room.
The main living space is all upstairs under a big arched roof. It's one big room with a kitchen, dining area, and sitting area. The whole south wall is glass, with doors out to a balcony. You get the view from inside. There's a lower deck outside with a hot tub and a chiminea.
It's got a 5 Star and a Green Tourism Gold award. That means it's comfortable and well-equipped, and built in a specific eco-friendly way. You'll find a dishwasher, washing machine, and WiFi. There's parking right there.
The local beach is a ten minute walk down the lane. It's pebbly. For proper sandy beaches, you drive to places like Ardtoe, which is about twenty minutes away. The village of Strontian is a mile and a half. It has a shop, a cafe, and a pub that does meals.
Out the back door, you can walk straight into the Ariundle Oakwoods. It's an old woodland, a bit like a rainforest, with trails and old lead mines. You're very likely to see deer. For a good day out, drive out to Ardnamurchan Lighthouse at the very tip of the peninsula. The Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre is good too. The National Trust for Scotland looks after some areas nearby.
Further afield, Fort William and Glencoe are about an hour's drive. You can get the steam train from Fort William to Mallaig if you book it.
Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair. No pets. It can be booked with the house next door if you need more space.
