Cherry Tree Cottage

Cherry Tree Cottage is in East Blackdene, a little hamlet near St John's Chapel in Weardale. It's a stone cottage, one of six up a lane. The lane to get up here is a bit narrow and steep in parts, but you have parking right outside.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom with a shower over the bath. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and tidy. There's a wood-burning stove in the living room, which is nice in the evenings. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you bring a dog. You can bring one well-behaved dog, by the way.

The kitchen has what you'd need. There's a washing machine, Wi-Fi, and towels and bedding are included.

You can walk down into St John's Chapel in about ten minutes. It's got a shop, a post office, two pubs that serve food, and a cafe. There's a small local cinema in the town hall every other week.

For walking, you're right in the North Pennines. The Weardale Way is on the doorstep, and you can get straight onto the fells from here. Cyclists use this route for the C2C sometimes.

Stanhope is about seven miles away. It has an outdoor heated swimming pool, a few shops, and the Durham Dales Centre for tea and cakes. Killhope Lead Mining Museum is about five miles. It's a good day out if you've got children.

If you want to go a bit further, Derwent Reservoir is within half an hour for sailing or a walk. The Weardale Adventure Centre, about four miles away, does things like canoeing and climbing.
