Cherry Tree Cottage

Cherry Tree Cottage is in East Blackdene, which is a small hamlet above St John's Chapel in Weardale. It's a stone cottage with a garden that has good views over the valley. You'll need to know the lane up to the hamlet is a bit narrow and steep in places.

It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. There's an open fire in the living room. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing a dog. You can bring one dog.

Down in St John's Chapel, which is a short walk from the cottage, there's a village shop, a post office, two pubs and a cafe. The town hall sometimes shows films.

Stanhope is about seven miles away. It's a small market town with an outdoor swimming pool, some shops and a cafe at the Durham Dales Centre. The Weardale Adventure Centre, about four miles away, does things like canoeing and climbing. If you're interested in the local history, Killhope Lead Mining Museum is about five miles from here.

For walking, you're right in the North Pennines. You can get down to the river easily from the cottage. Derwent Reservoir is within a 30 minute drive if you fancy sailing or a different walk.

Facilities are what you'd expect: WiFi, TV, washing machine, parking. Bedding and towels are included. Electricity is included. There's a wood burning stove, but you'd need to buy your own logs.
