Hare Cottage is in Westgate, up near Stanhope in Weardale. It's got a four star rating, which is good. It was all done up in 2021.
It's a cottage for two. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. One bedroom is downstairs with a kingsize bed, and it opens onto the back patio. The other is upstairs with twin beds and its own shower room. The stairs are oak and a normal steepness.
It's up a bit of a slope, so you look out over fields. The garden is big and lawned, and it's all yours. There's a sunny patio at the back with a table and chairs. You get parking right there.
Inside, the living room has a wood burning stove and a decent sized TV. The kitchen has what you need. It's all clean and modern.
The village of Westgate is a short walk downhill. There's a pub that does food. You can walk by the river from there. The whole area is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Stanhope is a few miles away. It's a proper little market town on the C2C cycle route. They've got an open-air swimming pool, the Durham Dales Centre for crafts and a cafe, and a fossil tree. The Killhope Lead Mining Museum is about five miles away, which is a good day out.
If you're outdoorsy, there's walking and cycling right from the door. The Weardale Adventure Centre is two miles away for things like climbing and canoeing. There's also a ski club nearby. Derwent Reservoir is under half an hour's drive for sailing, fishing, or a walk.
Practical stuff: it's wheelchair accessible at the entrance, there's a washing machine, WiFi, and bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog.
