North Lodge Cottage is a bungalow on a quiet, tree-lined avenue in Chester-le-Street. It's all on one floor, which is handy. It sleeps four in two bedrooms. One has a super king bed, the other a king. They've kept some nice original features. The bathroom has a walk-in shower.
The lounge has a bay window looking out at the trees. There's a smart TV. The kitchen is modern, with a breakfast bar for four. It leads through to a garden room with a dining table.
Outside, there's a secluded decked area with seating. You can have a drink or eat out there when it's warm. Parking is on site.
It's a four star rating. The place is clean and comfortable. The decor is nice but it's not fussy.
You're about halfway between Durham and Newcastle. Both are a short drive or you can get the train. Chester-le-Street itself has shops, restaurants, and a pub down the road that does food. Riverside Park is good for a walk along the Wear. The cricket ground is very close if that's your thing.
For days out, Beamish Museum is about four miles away. It's a good day. Durham city, with the cathedral and castle, is about 20 minutes by car. Newcastle's quayside and all the rest of it is about the same. The coast, either south towards Seaham or north into Northumberland, is within half an hour.
Facilities: WiFi, TV, washing machine, bedding and towels included. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
