Garden Cottage is in Achnashellach, in the Scottish Highlands. It's a stone-built house, one of a pair, but you get your own garden. It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable, with underfloor heating.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one double and one twin, and a bathroom between them. The stairs are typical for an old cottage, so they're a bit steep and turn a corner.
Downstairs, you come into the living room. There's a woodburning stove. Through the back is a dining room, then a pool room with French doors to the garden. The kitchen leads off from there, and there's a utility room with a washing machine.
The back garden is enclosed. You can let your dog off the lead there. In the front, you should keep them on a lead, because deer and other animals come through.
The train station is right behind the cottage. You can hear the trains, but they're not frequent. It's more of a background thing.
People mainly come here to walk. You can start right from the door. There are gentle riverside walks along the Lair, or you can head up into the hills. The Coulin Pass takes you over to Torridon, which is spectacular. For organised walks, the Walkhighlands site is very good.
If you want to drive, the Applecross Peninsula is about 45 minutes away, over the Bealach na Bà mountain pass. The Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle are about the same distance. Inverewe Garden is an hour north. For local history, the Historic Environment Scotland site has details on places like the brochs at Glenelg.
Facilities wise: there's parking, WiFi, a TV, and a cot and highchair if you need them. Bedding and towels are included. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
The cottage can be booked together with Achnashellach Bothy next door if you're a larger group.
