Meriel is an impressive detached cottage situated on the outskirts of the village of Laide. Set in a truly superb rural location on the west coast of Scotland there are panoramic views taking in mountains and the sea. The cottage is tucked away from the main road down a stone track. Situated in an acre of grounds it is a wonderfully secluded and peaceful spot. It’s a fantastic base for walkers as there not only Munros, Crobetts and Grahams nearby to venture, but there are are walks direct from the cottage to explore a nearby waterfall, some close hills and also the shore within a mile away where there’s the chance to spot seals, otters and other marine life.
The cottage offers a traditional croft style, built using Torridonian sandstone and finished to a very high standard. Inside, the living area features a stunning vaulted timber ceiling and beautifully hand-crafted stone wall with a wood burner for a cosy night in or just a relaxing space to enjoy the views. The large, well equipped kitchen and dining area are ideal for preparing and sharing a meal together after a day exploring the Highlands and again you can relax here and enjoy the views out to sea. The double bedroom has plenty of matching furnishings to store your belongings and luxurious bedding for a peaceful nights sleep. Adjacent to this is the family bathroom with a modern white suite including a shower and bath. The twin bedroom is equally comfortable with views of the countryside and a spacious white en-suite featuring a walk in shower.
The cottage is a perfect place for couples as it’s peaceful getaway but also families will enjoy the place as there’s open space to enjoy with sandy beaches nearby. Meriel is ideally situated for exploring all the Highlands has to offer. The village of Laide has a well-stocked shop, post office and petrol station. A little further on at Aultbea there is another shop, cafes, and gift shops. Further afield in Gairloch and Ullapool are sports facilities, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and numerous opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hill walking, kayaking, horse riding, golf and boat trips and many more.
A must is the beautiful sandy beach at Gruinard and Laide has a 200-acre wood on the doorstep where you can try to spot some of the amazing flora and fauna the Highlands has to offer.
