North Cottage is on our farm, Howpasley, near Teviothead. It's an old farmworker's cottage we've done up. Two bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom downstairs.
It sleeps four. Three Star rating, so it's simple and clean. The kitchen's a good size. There's a wood burner in the living room for if it gets chilly, and the central heating runs on oil.
The garden is yours with a picnic table. You can park right outside. There's a shed if you've brought bikes.
You should know there's no mobile signal here at all. We do have broadband internet in the cottage, so you can get online that way if you need to.
It's very quiet. You'll hear the burn and the birds. You're welcome to walk along the farm tracks by the water and in the fields when the sheep aren't there. There's direct access into Craik Forest from the farm gate for walking or cycling on the forest roads.
For shops or a pub, you need to go to Hawick. It's about twelve miles, so twenty minutes or so in the car.
Edinburgh is under two hours north if you want a city day. Carlisle is about an hour south. The Cairngorms National Park is about an hour and a half's drive for bigger hills.
Facilities are all there: washing machine, Wi-Fi, bedding and towels are included. There's parking. It's wheelchair accessible to get in the door, but it's on two levels inside. No pets, sorry.
If you want more information on the area, the Scottish Borders Council site has good visitor pages, and Forestry and Land Scotland covers the forests.
