South Cottage is part of Howpasley Farm, up at Teviothead. It's about twelve miles from Hawick. The setting is very quiet. You'll hear the burn running and not much else.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean but not luxurious. It's been redecorated recently. The layout is traditional for around here: living room and kitchen-diner downstairs, bedrooms upstairs.
There's a wood burner in the living room for cold nights. The heating and hot water are from an oil boiler. You have your own garden with a picnic table. There's parking right outside and a shed you can put bikes in.
A thing to know: there's no mobile signal. You do get broadband in the cottage for WiFi, so you can make calls that way.
It's good for walkers and cyclists. You can get straight onto trails in Craik Forest from the farm. You're also welcome to walk along the farm tracks by Howpasley Burn, as long as you avoid the fields with sheep in them. It's a working farm, but focused on conservation now.
Hawick has the nearest shops and places to eat. For a day out, you can drive down to Carlisle in about an hour, or up to Edinburgh in under two. There's local fishing and riding nearby too.
The cottage can be booked with North Cottage next door if you're a larger group. That one has a slightly bigger kitchen and second bedroom.
Facilities are all included: bedding, towels, washing machine, and the WiFi. There's a TV and a DVD player with some books and games. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
