The Bothy

The Bothy is in Haywood, in Lanarkshire. It's a detached stone cottage, originally part of a farm. It's old, from the 1700s, and Grade II listed. The walls are thick, the windows are sash and case. You've got your own walled garden out the back.

It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place. We've restored it. There's a woodburning stove in the living room, oak floors, and comfortable furniture. The kitchen has what you need, including a dishwasher. There's a washing machine too. WiFi is included. Bedding and towels are provided.

The bedroom has a super king size bed that can be split into twins if you prefer. The garden is private, with a patio. You get pheasants, wrens, and a heron visits the stream. We've seen foxes and badgers about too.

There's a shop, a pub, and a restaurant about two miles away. For a big supermarket or more choice, you'd go into Lanark, which is about eight miles.

New Lanark is a World Heritage Site, also about eight miles. It's a preserved 18th-century mill village. Well worth a visit. The Falls of Clyde are there too, a series of waterfalls with a nature reserve. They have nesting peregrines.

Edinburgh is within a 30 minute drive, roughly 26 miles. You can be in the city centre for the castle, the Royal Mile, or shopping quite easily. The Royal Yacht Britannia is at Leith. The Pentland Hills are on the outskirts if you want a walk without going into the city.

For planning, these might be useful: National Trust for Scotland at New Lanark and Scottish Wildlife Trust: Falls of Clyde.
