Cliff Cottage

Cliff Cottage is in Lonbain, about seven miles north of Applecross village on the peninsula. It's a detached house, so no neighbours on the other side of the wall. You're right on the coast here.

It sleeps seven in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's well looked after and comfortable. The owners are local, so the place feels like a proper home. There's artwork from the area on the walls.

Outside, there's a patio and garden. In the front garden, there are raised beds with vegetables growing. If you're there when things are ready, you're welcome to pick some.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. All the bedding and towels are included. It's got a dishwasher and washing machine, and there's parking right by the cottage.

You can bring up to two dogs. The area around the cottage is great for walking them. You're a few minutes' walk from the shore.

Sand Bay is about two miles back down the road. It's a beautiful beach. Applecross village has a pub, a couple of cafes, and a small shop. It's about a fifteen minute drive.

The road up to the cottage is single track. The famous road into Applecross, the Bealach na Bà, is the mountain pass from the south. It's very steep and not for nervous drivers. The coastal road from the north, via Shieldaig and Torridon, is longer but easier. Both are spectacular.

If you're planning trips, the Applecross website has local information. For wider exploring, the National Trust for Scotland looks after Glencoe and other places, which are about an hour and a half's drive.

The facilities list says it all really: TV, walk-in shower, local fishing nearby. It's a good base for a quiet holiday.
