Breacwell Cottage

Breacwell Cottage is in Bonar Bridge. It's a croft cottage right on the edge of Loch Migdale. You look straight out over the water. The garden's fully enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bathroom is an ensuite to the main bedroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean, not luxurious. The stairs are normal. The ceilings upstairs are coombed, so they're low in places. You'll need to mind your head.

There's a woodburning stove in the living room. The conservatory at the front is a good spot to sit and watch the loch. We see swans, otters, and red squirrels. The owner's sheep are in the next field. You get the polytunnel too, help yourself to herbs or whatever's growing.

Bonar Bridge is about three miles for a shop and a pub. For a bigger supermarket, you're looking at ten miles to Tain or Lairg.

You can walk straight from the door along the lochside or into the woods. The North Coast 500 route passes nearby. It's a good base for that. Dornoch is about twenty minutes away for the beach and the cathedral golf course. You can drive west to Ullapool in under an hour for the ferry to the Outer Hebrides. Inverness is about an hour south.

For facilities, it's got what you'd expect: washing machine, TV, WiFi, parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs.

If you're planning trips, the NatureScot website is good for walking routes and wildlife info.
