The Hayloft

The Hayloft is in Glenbrook. That's near Balerno, on the edge of the Pentland Hills. It's an old barn that's been converted. It's attached to our house, but you've got your own entrance and a private garden.

It sleeps four. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is modern inside but we kept some of the old woodwork and there's some nice stained glass.

The stairs are a thing to know about. They're the original ones from the hayloft, so they're steep and a bit narrow. Just take your time.

You're out in the countryside here. There are good walks right from the door into the Pentlands. It's quiet. For a shop, a pub, or a restaurant, you'd drive to Balerno. That's about ten minutes away.

You can get the train into Edinburgh from Kirknewton station, which is about three miles from here. It's about a twenty minute journey. So you can easily have a day in the city without the car. Once you're there, the National Trust for Scotland has a few properties in the city worth a look.

If you're driving out, places like Hopetoun House aren't far. You can get to Stirling, Perth, or over to the coast in Fife within an hour. The Ratho climbing centre is close by if that's your sort of thing.

As for what's here: there's a woodburning stove, WiFi, a dishwasher and washing machine. All the bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. We can store bikes if you're bringing them. No pets, I'm afraid.

For planning walks in the hills, the Pentland Hills Regional Park site is useful. For wider trips, Visit Scotland has good info.
