Cloud Howe

Cloud Howe is one of three cottages in the old schoolhouse in Arbuthnott. It's a three-bedroom place that sleeps six. There's one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean without being luxurious.

The cottage is on the Arbuthnott estate. The family has been here for centuries. The house and gardens are open to the public a few days a year, but you can email to arrange a private visit if you're interested.

You're properly in the countryside here. It's quiet. The back garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. We allow up to two. The front garden is open and there's a playing field with a playground right next to it.

The coast is about three and a half miles away. Inverbervie has a shingle beach and some good coastal walks. There's a shop, a pub, and a restaurant there too, so that's your nearest.

Stonehaven is about nine miles. It's a busy little town with an outdoor heated swimming pool. Dunnottar Castle is just outside Stonehaven. It's a dramatic ruin on the cliffs. The National Trust for Scotland looks after it. Dunnottar Castle.

Montrose is 13 miles south. It's got a long sandy beach and a basin for watching birds. You can get to the Angus Glens from there if you like hill walking.

For facilities, it's got the basics. Washing machine, dishwasher, TV, WiFi included. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a cot if you need it. Parking is right outside.

If you're planning days out, the National Trust for Scotland page for Dunnottar is useful, and so is the VisitAberdeenshire site.
