Braidwood Castle is in Braidwood, Lanarkshire. It's a tower house, about five hundred years old. It sleeps five. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.
It's a proper castle with thick stone walls and small windows. The stone stairs inside are steep and narrow. They're the original ones built into the wall. You need to be steady on your feet. The doorways into the great hall are low as well, so mind your head.
The main room is the great hall on the first floor. It's got a huge fireplace with a wood burner and a painted ceiling from when it was built. It's a good room to sit in. The master bedroom is right at the top. You get to it by going outside onto the parapet walkway for a few steps. The views from up there are good, over the burn and the fields.
It's got Wi-Fi, a dishwasher, and washing machine. The heating works well, which you need in a stone building. There's parking. The garden is about an acre and a half, mostly woodland, and it's shared with the cottage next door. A path leads down to the River Clyde.
There's a shop about a mile away. A pub and a restaurant are three quarters of a mile. For a bigger shop, Lanark is five miles.
The Clyde Valley Woodlands are right here for walking. New Lanark, the old mill village, is a short drive. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. Glasgow is easy to get to by train from Carluke station, which is a few miles away.
You can bring two dogs. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. Bedding and towels are included.
