Llechwedd Mawr

Llechwedd Mawr is our cottage in the Cambrian Mountains. It's halfway between Tal y Bont and Ponterwyd, up a single track lane off the B4574. You go over the Nant-y-Moch dam to get here. The view of Pumlumon from the track is the first proper sign you're arriving somewhere different.

It's a detached stone cottage. It sleeps six people in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, which helps. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and finished to a high standard. It's not a museum piece, it's a comfortable house. But it is very old. The walls are thick. The history is interesting if you like that sort of thing, but the main thing is it's warm and dry.

All the windows look out over the mountains. It's quiet. You can hear the wind and the sheep. There's a wood burner for cooler evenings. Outside, there's a BBQ and space to sit. You can bring one dog for free, a second one costs a bit extra.

The nearest shop and pub are in Tal y Bont, about eight miles back down the valley. You need to plan shopping trips. For bigger shops, Aberystwyth is about a 25 minute drive. It's a university town with a seafront, a pier, and a cliff railway. Machynlleth is about half an hour the other way, towards Snowdonia. The coast at Aberaeron is lovely for a wander, about 30 minutes south.

If you're here to walk or bike, you're in the right place. You can step straight out onto the hills. The Cambrian Mountains site has ideas. For a famous local walk, the waterfalls at Devil's Bridge are about 15 minutes drive away. The Visit Wales cycling page covers the area.

We include all the bedding and towels. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right outside. Things like a cot, highchair, and stairgate are here if you need them.
