The Dovecote

The Dovecote is in Thrupp, which is a little hamlet right by the Oxford Canal. It’s a small, detached place in the grounds of a big house. It’s very quiet here.

It’s for two people. One bedroom upstairs, one bathroom downstairs. It’s got a 4 Star rating. The bed’s comfortable and everything works.

The stairs are the main thing to know about. They’re spiral and quite steep. You get used to them, but you do need to be careful, especially at night.

You can bring one dog. There’s a small private garden. The canal towpath is right there, so you can walk for miles without going near a road. Good for the dog.

There’s a pub, The Boat Inn, about five minutes’ walk away. It’s a proper local with a fire. Annie’s Tearoom is just over the bridge for a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

For a proper shop, you’ll need Kidlington. It’s about two miles. They’ve got supermarkets and things there. There’s a bus stop from there into Oxford. The Park and Ride is probably easier if you’re driving.

Oxford is about six miles. You’re on the right side of town for Blenheim Palace in Woodstock too, that’s maybe fifteen minutes by car. The M40 is close if you want to head out to the Cotswolds or somewhere like Stratford.

Inside, it’s got what you’d need: a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There’s parking right outside.

If you’re planning trips out, these sites are useful: Oxford City Council for the city, and Blenheim Palace for tickets.
