The Gatehouse

The Gatehouse is in Black Heddon, which is out in the country north of Ponteland. It's a detached little place on the grounds of Bitchfield Tower. The tower's 15th century, a proper pele tower, but the Gatehouse itself is modern inside. It's just for two people.

You get the place to yourselves, plus shared use of about six acres of grounds. There's a tennis court and a trout lake on the estate if you fancy that. The setting is quiet. You're looking out at fields.

It's got a 4 Star rating. Everything's on one level. The shower is en-suite. It's warm and comfortable. There's a wood burning stove for chilly evenings, and a patio with a barbecue.

You'll need a car. The nearest shop and pub are about three miles away in Stamfordham. Ponteland is a bit closer and has more choices for eating. The A69 is easily reached, so getting around is simple.

For days out, you're well placed. The Northumberland coast is about half an hour's drive. Alnwick Castle and its gardens are a big draw. Heading inland, Belsay Hall is interesting, and Hexham with its abbey is a nice market town. Newcastle city centre is under half an hour if you want that. You can drive up to Hadrian's Wall in well under an hour.

Included in the price: all electricity, bedding, and towels. There's parking right outside. No pets, I'm afraid.
