Sprat & Winkle

Sprat & Winkle is a railway carriage in Horsebridge, Hampshire, which is near Stockbridge. My aunt owns the old station house, and we converted the carriage beside it. It sleeps four, across two bedrooms, and both have ensuite shower rooms.

The carriage was built in 1922. We've modernised it inside but kept a few original features. The light fittings in the main room came from a scrap yard and are from the actual Orient Express. The layout is open plan, so the living area, kitchen, and dining bit are all together.

Outside, there's a patio with a table and chairs and a barbecue. The garden is shared and has a kids' play area, which a dog likes to run around in too. We allow one well-behaved pet. Bear in mind there’s a friendly resident labrador and a cat called Coco about the place.

The carriage is on the old station platform. The famous Test Way walking path is about a hundred yards away, following the line of the old railway. There’s a pub, the John O'Gaunt, just at the end of the station drive.

For anything else, Stockbridge is about five minutes away by car. It has shops, cafes, and the River Test runs through it. Romsey, with its abbey and more shops, is about twenty minutes away. Winchester, Salisbury, and the New Forest are all within half an hour's drive.

Facilities: the kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. There’s parking, wifi, and a TV. All bedding and towels are included. I have a table tennis table I can put up if you let me know before you arrive.
