Franks
Frank’s is a traditional crofters cottage which has been extensively renovated to provide contemporary accommodation to a very good standard. The ground floor is open plan with wooden floors, underfloor heating and a cosy wood burner. Enjoy the peace and tranquility whilst watching the ever-changing scenery. Stylishly furnished taking comfort into consideration, there are many extras including a built-in streaming music system with free link to Spotify, and a smart TV with free access to Netflix.
Located in the crofting community of Bornesketaig, north of Uig, Frank’s lies just a short walk from Camus Mor, a lovely sheltered bay where you can launch small boats or kayaks, and watch seals, a wide range of seabirds, basking sharks or just enjoy the breathtaking views and sunsets. The area is linked to the historic, romantic legend of Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora MacDonald, who is buried in Kilmuir Cemetery beside the Museum of Island Life. Whitewave Activity Centre is within easy reach and offers a wide range of activities including kayaking, archery, abseiling/mountain climbing. The dramatic landscape of the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr have excellent hillwalking. The Staffin Museum is a must as it contains excellent collections of local geological and fossil specimens.
The village of Uig is a short drive where you will find hotels, restaurants, a brewery and the main ferry terminal for travelling to the Isle of Harris/Lewis and the Uists. The Faerie Glen is an excellent place to take children, the glen’s geological formations are fascinating. Portree, the island’s capital, is only 30 minutes drive away, where you will find restaurants, gift shops, swimming pool, climbing wall and boat trips to see the sea eagles. There is so much to discover throughout the island including historic sites, castles, brochs, gardens, whisky distillery, boat trips, pony trekking and much more. You will be amazed at the dramatic landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, dark skies and the Northern Lights. Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.
