Petals Cottage is in Netherseal, which is part of the National Forest. It's attached to our house, but you have your own front door and it’s private. There’s a garden out the front that we share, and it gets the morning sun.
It's a single-floor place for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. The bathroom has both a bath and a separate shower, which is handy. The main room is open plan, with the kitchen and living space together. There’s an electric stove that looks like a wood burner, it gives off a good heat. The French doors open onto the garden.
We’ve got chickens and horses here. The dog might pop her head over the fence to say hello. If you don’t like animals, it’s probably not the place for you.
Netherseal itself is quiet. There are a couple of nice village pubs you can walk to. For a bigger shop, you’d need to drive to Ashby or Swadlincote.
You’re right on the edge of the National Forest, so there are walks from the door. The National Forest website has good maps. Rosliston Forestry Centre is close, and they have birds of prey and things like archery. Conkers is another one nearby, with walks and a play area.
The Peak District is about a 25-minute drive north. It’s the obvious place for a proper day out walking. Peak District National Park has all the info. For history, Calke Abbey and the National Memorial Arboretum are within half an hour.
If you’ve got kids, or you’re a big kid, Drayton Manor theme park is 20 minutes away. So is the Snowdome in Tamworth.
Facilities are all there: WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There’s parking right outside. One well-behaved dog is allowed.
