Nene Cottage

This is Nene Cottage in Upwell. It's a detached house, not a cottage really, but that's what it's called. It sits right on the river bank.

It sleeps eight people. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's in good order, comfortable.

Inside, there are two living rooms. One has a wood burner. The other is open plan with the kitchen. The doors open onto a big deck over the river. You can sit out there and watch the boats go by.

The stairs are a standard staircase, not steep like some old cottages.

Outside, there's a BBQ and a pizza oven in the garden. You can fish from the bank. We leave some fishing gear there. There are also a couple of kayaks you can use, but only from about April to September. Please note, you need a separate licence from the Canal & River Trust for each person using a kayak. You also need a separate rod licence from the Environment Agency for each person fishing. You can't fish in the river between the 15th of March and the 15th of June, that's the closed season.

Upwell is a village in the Norfolk Fens. It's quiet. There's a shop and a couple of pubs you can walk to. It's very flat, good for cycling.

Wisbech is about ten minutes' drive. Downham Market is about twenty. King's Lynn is about half an hour. Norwich is just under an hour. The North Norfolk coast, places like Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea, are about forty-five minutes to an hour away.

For facilities: it has a washing machine, dishwasher, Wi-Fi, TV, and parking for cars on the drive. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
