The Smithy

The Smithy is in New Galloway. It's a village in Dumfriesshire, in the southern bit of Scotland. We're about two hundred yards from the main road.

It sleeps six people. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bathroom is a shower room downstairs. There's a main bathroom upstairs. It's a 4 Star place, which is good. It's comfortable and well-equipped. The stairs are quite steep.

The garden is enclosed and private. There's a stream at the bottom of it. You'll hear the water. There's a patio area with a table and chairs, and a BBQ.

Inside, the kitchen has everything you'd need, including a dishwasher and washing machine. There's a wood burner in the dining area. We leave you some logs to start you off. There's a TV and the WiFi usually works fine.

New Galloway has a shop and a couple of pubs. The shop is a post office as well. The pubs do food.

You're right on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. It's a huge area for walking and cycling. They have mountain bike trails. It's also a Dark Sky Park, so if the night is clear you can see a lot of stars from the garden.

Within about half an hour's drive you can get to plenty of places. There's fishing on Loch Ken. The coast at Gatehouse of Fleet or Kirkcudbright is about twenty-five minutes away. Threave Garden, which is a National Trust for Scotland property, is near Castle Douglas.

Things to know: All bedding and towels are included. There's parking for two cars on the drive. We don't allow pets. The cottage is decorated for Christmas if you book over that period.
