The Old Parish Hall

The Old Parish Hall used to be the village hall for Rickling Green. It's a detached building, so no neighbours attached. It was built in the 1800s but it's been done up now.

It's a 4 Star place, which means it's comfortable and well finished. It's just for two people. There's one bedroom upstairs and one bathroom.

The main thing is the space inside. The ceiling is very high. The floor is stone and it has underfloor heating. There's a wood burner for colder nights. The dining table is huge and it converts into a small snooker table. There's also a jet engine cowling on the wall, which is a bit random but it's part of the place now.

The bedroom is up on a mezzanine floor. You get to it by a spiral staircase. It's Edwardian oak. It's a proper spiral staircase, so it's quite steep and open. You need to be careful on it. The bedroom itself is big, with a kingsize bed and a sofa. The bathroom is up there too, it's en-suite.

Outside there's a small garden area with a patio. You can use the barbecue there. The Cricketer's Arms pub is very close, just over the road. It's good.

For getting around, Stansted Mountfitchet village is about five minutes drive. The train station there has regular services into London Liverpool Street or out to Cambridge. The castle and toy museum are there if you're interested.

Saffron Walden is about fifteen minutes away. It's a nice market town. Audley End House and Gardens is just outside it, run by English Heritage. Duxford Imperial War Museum is about the same distance in the other direction, towards Cambridge.

If you want to go further, Cambridge city centre is about forty minutes by car. Newmarket racecourse is half an hour. The coast at Mersea Island is about an hour's drive.

The facilities are all there: WiFi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking on the drive. You can bring up to two dogs.
