Rowan Cottage

Rowan Cottage is a semi-detached place in Cairnborrow, near Huntly. It's up a farm track, surrounded by fields. You're on your own up here, really. It's quiet.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms: one has a kingsize bed, the other has two singles that can be zipped together into a double if you prefer. One bathroom, which is a wet room on the ground floor. It's got a walk-in shower with a seat. The stairs are okay, but because it's all ground floor living apart from the bedrooms, it suits people who'd rather not do too many steps.

There's a wood burner in the living room. It gets the place cosy. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Outside, there's a big lawn, a deck, and a summerhouse you can use. Plenty of parking.

The nearest shop and pub are in Huntly, about four miles away. Huntly's a decent little town. It's got a castle, a museum, and it's on the Malt Whisky Trail. You're right by the Clashindarroch Forest for walking.

Within a half hour drive or so, you can get to a few places. Dufftown and Keith are other whisky trail towns. Stonehaven is about 25 minutes south for the harbour and Dunnottar Castle. The coast at Cullen and Portsoy is to the north. Aberdeen is about 45 minutes if you want a city day.

Facilities are all included: bedding, towels, WiFi, TV. There's a BBQ. No pets, I'm afraid.

If you're planning trips, the Visit Scotland North East page is useful, and for walks, Forestry and Land Scotland has details.
