The Farmhouse At Polehanger
The Farmhouse at Polehanger is in Shefford, Bedfordshire. It's a detached farmhouse on a working farm. Sleeps twelve. I know, that’s a lot. It feels it, though. Six bedrooms, three bathrooms.
It’s got a five star rating, which basically means it’s been done to a high standard. It’s comfortable. It isn't just a big empty shell.
The layout might sound complicated but it’s straightforward. The main farmhouse has four bedrooms, a big kitchen, a dining room, and two living spaces. Then there's an adjoining cottage bit attached at the back. That has another kitchen, a small living room, a bathroom, and the final two bedrooms. So it works well if you've got two families or a big group who might want a tiny bit of separation. You're all under one roof, just with an internal door between.
It has the original farmhouse features, high ceilings, fireplaces. They've put in a wood burner. The gardens are big and well kept. You get proper dark skies out here.
Shefford village is about a mile and a half away. You've got supermarkets, a chemist, a couple of takeaways there. Good pubs are a short drive. The National Trust has places nearby if you like architecture. Woburn Abbey is close.
For days out, Woburn Safari Park is under 40 minutes. Cambridge is about 45 minutes by car if you fancy the museums or punting. London is doable. The train from Arlesey gets you to St Pancras in around 40 minutes.
Facilities: two kitchens, both with dishwashers. Washing machine, parking for several cars, bedding and towels are included. WiFi. Dogs are allowed, up to two.
