Hodroyd Hall is near South Hiendley in West Yorkshire. It's a detached house, quite old. Grade II listed. You can see the history in the stone.
It sleeps eight, but there are only three bedrooms. They're large suites really, each with its own bathroom. There's a fourth bathroom downstairs too. One room is called the Cromwell Room. He did apparently stay here. The Queen's Chamber is another. The story is Mary Queen of Scots stopped here. They're just bedrooms though, comfortable ones.
Downstairs is a lot of space. There's a big hall with a staircase, a library, a snug, a formal dining room, and an orangery off the kitchen. The kitchen itself is large, with a table. It's a family house, not a museum, so you can use the rooms. The garden is landscaped. There's a courtyard that gets the sun.
It's a 5 Star rating, which reflects the space and the quality. It's a luxury property.
There's a pub about three quarters of a mile away. Shops and a supermarket are two and a half miles. Fitzwilliam train station is close, with free parking. You can get to Wakefield, Leeds, or Sheffield from there in about half an hour.
For days out, you're well placed. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Pontefract Castle, Cannon Hall, and the Hepworth Gallery are all within a 20 minute drive. For walks, Carlton Marsh Nature Reserve is five minutes away. Pugneys Country Park is about 15 minutes; you can do water sports there.
Further afield, you can reach the edge of the Peak District in half an hour. York, Skipton, and the coast at Scarborough are all doable for a day trip.
Facilities: all the usual things are included. Washing machine, dishwasher, Wi-Fi, TV. Bedding and towels are provided. There's on-site parking. One well-behaved dog is allowed. We can provide a highchair.
