Burnside Cottage is one of a pair of semi-detached houses in Bruichladdich. It's my place. I renovated it in 2022, so everything inside is new or nearly new. It's got a 4 Star rating.
It sleeps four people. Two bedrooms upstairs. One has a kingsize bed, the other has a super kingsize that can be split into two singles if you need it. The stairs are normal.
Downstairs is all open plan. Kitchen, dining area, living area. There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. The bathroom is on the ground floor. It's got a big corner bath and a separate shower cabin.
Outside, there's a porch for boots and coats. The garden at the back is enclosed, which is good if you have dogs or kids. There's a patio area with a table and chairs. It gets the sun in the afternoon.
The village is small. The distillery is a short walk away. There's a shop for basics about the same distance. The beach is about five hundred yards down the road.
You can walk along the coast to Port Charlotte. It takes about forty minutes. Port Charlotte has a few more shops, a hotel, and the Museum of Islay Life. Port Ellen and Bowmore are both about a ten to fifteen minute drive. Bowmore has a swimming pool and more shops.
If you're here for the whisky, there are nine distilleries on the island. Bruichladdich is the closest. You can book tours. For walks, the RSPB has a reserve at Loch Gruinart, about twenty minutes by car. The National Trust for Scotland looks after a few sites here too, like the Oa.
Facilities: all bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and parking right outside. We allow up to two dogs. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
