The Bothy

The Bothy is in Ardtun. It’s a semi-detached cottage, part of a row of old croft buildings that’s been done up. It sleeps two. One bedroom, one shower room. It’s got a 3 Star rating, which means it’s clean and comfortable but not fancy. The door opens straight into the main room.

There’s a patio garden out the front. You can see the loch from there. It’s about a five minute walk down to the shore. Sometimes you’ll see seals or an otter from the rocks.

Inside, it’s open plan. There’s a kitchen area, a table and chairs, and a sofa. The bedroom is off through a door. Everything’s on one level, so there are no stairs. The shower room has a walk-in shower. There’s a TV, a washing machine, and bedding is included. There’s no WiFi, but 4G signal is usually okay if you need it.

The village of Bunessan is a five minute drive. It has a shop with a post office and a hotel that does food. Fionnphort, where you get the ferry to Iona, is about five miles away. The beaches at Uisken and Ardlanish are a short drive and they’re very good. Craignure, the main ferry port, is about 45 minutes’ drive north.

If you’re planning trips, you might want to look at National Trust for Scotland Iona and the CalMac ferry timetables.

The Bothy can be booked with the cottage next door, The Stables, if you’re a bigger group. No pets sorry.
