Dalcharn

Dalcharn is in Bettyhill, up on the north coast. It's a detached cottage from around the turn of the last century. It's on a hillside, so the main view is from the front, looking out over the River Naver and Torrisdale Bay.

It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. The stairs are normal. It's wheelchair accessible to get in, but it's an old cottage, so the internal layout might still have steps.

There's a kitchen and dining area at the back with a wood burner. The main living room at the front has an electric stove and those views. There's a second living room with a TV and a sofa bed. It also has an old pump organ that still works.

Outside, there's an enclosed garden. You can bring up to two dogs.

Farr Beach is the closest, about a mile away. It's sandy and gets a good swell for surfing. The bigger surfing spots like Thurso East are within a 30 minute drive.

If you fish, the lower beat of the River Naver is on the doorstep. Day permits are available locally. The area is known for salmon and sea trout.

For walking, you're right on the edge of the Northwest Highlands Geopark. Ben Hope, the most northerly Munro, is about a 40 minute drive south. You're also just off the North Coast 500 route.

Facilities: there's a washing machine, WiFi, TV, bedding and towels are included, and there's parking on site. There's a local pub.

Useful links for planning: the Wildland sites cover a lot of the local estates and paths, and Visit Scotland's NC500 page has an overview of the route.
