The Boat House is in Lochmaddy on North Uist. It's a detached cottage right by the water. You're about 50 yards from the village shop and the pub is a short walk away.
It sleeps two, maybe three if one's a child. There's one bathroom with a shower downstairs. The living area is all open-plan with French doors to a patio. You get the patio to yourself. It's a good spot to sit and watch the loch.
The bedroom is upstairs. The stairs are steep and spiral, so watch your head. Up there is a double bed and a small single.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean. There's a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and parking. The entrance is level but the stairs aren't, so it's only wheelchair accessible on the ground floor.
Lochmaddy is a working harbour. You can get the ferry here from Uig on Skye or from Harris. There's a shop, a café, and a couple of hotel restaurants. The pub is good.
The west coast beaches are about a seven mile drive. They're big, white sand beaches. You'll need a car to get to most of them.
If you like walking or cycling, the Hebridean Way goes through the islands. The bus network links up with it so you can walk one way and get the bus back. The landscape is all peat and little lochs. You'll see a lot of birds. Otters are around, and there's a big seal colony nearby.
