Riverview Cottage

Riverview Cottage is our place in Shielfoot, near Acharacle. It's in the Highlands, right by Loch Sunart.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's clean and tidy but it's not a show home. Everything works.

The main thing is the view. You look straight down the garden, over the field, to the river estuary. You can see seals from the kitchen window. It's quiet.

The living room is open plan with a woodburning stove. There's plenty of wood provided. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. The garden is fully enclosed, so it's safe for dogs or kids.

You can walk from the front door. There's a coastal path that goes along the edge of the loch. For a bigger walk, you're close to Ardnamurchan, which is the most westerly point on the British mainland. It's about a 40 minute drive. The beach at Sanna is worth it.

Acharacle has a shop with a post office and a petrol pump. There's a hotel that does food. For a bigger supermarket, Fort William is about an hour's drive.

It's a good base if you want to explore. Glenfinnan is about 30 minutes away, where the viaduct is. You can sometimes see the steam train. Tobermory on Mull is an hour, including the ferry from Kilchoan.

Facilities: there's parking for two cars. Beds are made up with linen and towels included. There's a cot and a highchair. WiFi is there but it's satellite, so it's fine for browsing but not for streaming films. You can bring two dogs.
