The Hayloft

The Hayloft is a one-bedroom place on our farm just outside Darvel. It's for two people. We've got another cottage next door called Chaff House if you need more space, but this one is just for two.

It's a converted hayloft, so it's all on one level except for a small step up into the bedroom. The front door is wide enough for a wheelchair. It's open-plan inside, just a kitchen, sitting area, and the bed's through an archway. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's clean and tidy. There's a patio out the front that's just for you.

You're welcome to bring one dog. We have other animals here on the farm, goats, alpacas, a donkey, and some small ponies. You can book a time to come and meet them if you like.

The main thing here is the location for walking or cycling. The back gate opens right onto the trails of Whitelee Windfarm. It's the UK's largest windfarm, and there are over 130 kilometres of paths through the forest. You can walk for miles straight from the door without seeing a car.

If you drive, there's a lot to see. Dumfries House and Dean Castle Country Park are close by. Culzean Castle is the big tourist draw in Ayrshire, about a 40-minute drive. The coast at Ayr, Prestwick, or Troon is about half an hour away for a beach day. You can get the ferry to Arran from Ardrossan.

For something really special, the Galloway Forest Park is about 30 minutes drive. It's a huge area of wild land, great for seeing wildlife. It's also a designated Dark Sky Park, so on a clear night the stars are incredible. The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory is in Dalmellington, not far from there.

Facilities wise, it's got what you'd need. WiFi, TV, included bedding and towels. There's parking and an electric vehicle charger. We can provide a cot and highchair. It's fine for a Christmas stay.
