The Hayloft

The Hayloft is on our farm just outside Darvel in Ayrshire. It's a one bedroom place for two people. There's another cottage next door called Chaff House if you're coming with friends, you can book both together.

It's a converted hayloft, so the main living space is upstairs. The stairs are a spiral staircase. They're fine, but they are what they are. The bathroom and a utility area are downstairs. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.

You're right on the edge of Whitelee Windfarm here. That sounds industrial, but it's actually a massive area of forest and paths. You can walk or cycle straight from the door onto over 130 kilometres of trails. It's really good for getting out.

We have a smallholding with goats, alpacas, a donkey, and some ponies. You can book animal feeding sessions with us if you like that sort of thing. It's a working farm, so you'll see us about.

There's a patio area for you to sit out. You can bring one dog. We have an electric vehicle charger on site.

For days out, Dumfries House and Dean Castle are close by. Culzean Castle is the big one locally, it's a National Trust for Scotland property and worth a visit. The coast at Ayr or Troon is about half an hour's drive. The beaches are sandy and you look over to Arran.

If you head the other way, about thirty minutes inland, you get to Galloway Forest Park. It's huge, proper wilderness with lochs and hills. It's also a Dark Sky Park, so if it's a clear night, the stars are amazing. The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory is in Dalmellington nearby.

Facilities are all included: bed linen, towels, wifi, TV, parking. We can provide a cot and highchair. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but because it's split-level with the spiral stairs inside, it might not suit everyone's mobility needs.
