Monkroyd House is an old farmhouse in Featherstone, near Pontefract. It's detached, so no one's attached to you. The place sleeps eight, but that's in three bedrooms, so some are sharing. There are three bathrooms though, two are en-suites which helps.
It's a 4 Star place. That means it's been done up to a good standard. It's comfortable, not just a basic holiday let.
The garden is a big selling point. It's large, with a lawn, a hot tub, and a BBQ area. Farmer Copleys farm shop and café is right opposite the gate. That's handy for picking up some local produce. There are a couple of pubs within walking distance too.
Inside, the rooms are a good size. The kitchen has a breakfast table and a dishwasher. There's a separate dining room that seats eight. The living room has a Smart TV. There's a washing machine, WiFi, and an electric vehicle charger. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair.
We take up to two dogs. There's a bit of bicycle storage as well.
For things to do, you're well placed. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is about 20 minutes' drive. It's very good. Pontefract Castle is in town, it's a ruin but it's got a lot of history. If you need more shopping or a city day, Leeds is about 40 minutes away.
For walks, Newmillerdam Country Park is close by. For birdwatching, the RSPB has Fairburn Ings and St Aidan's nearby. The Yorkshire Wildlife Park is popular with families, maybe half an hour away. Xscape in Castleford has indoor skiing and a cinema, that's about 10 minutes in the car. There are golf courses at Pontefract and Darrington.
That's about it really. It's a solid base for seeing this part of Yorkshire.
