This is the Old School House in Altnaharra. It's in a hamlet in the far north of Scotland.
It's detached and sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with king size beds, and each has its own shower room. We've completely redone it, so it's modern and warm. The heating is underfloor from an air source pump, so the floors are never cold.
You come in through the front door into one big living space. It's open plan, so the kitchen, dining and sitting area are all together. There's a wood burner for evenings. The kitchen has a dishwasher, and there's a utility cupboard with a washing machine.
Outside, there's parking for three cars. There's a shed for bikes or fishing gear. The garden at the back has a seating area. The views from there are all hills and sky.
The Altnaharra Hotel is about a five minute walk away. It does food and is the local pub.
You're right in the middle of Sutherland here. Ben Hope and Ben Klibreck, the most northerly Munros, are on your doorstep. You'll see red deer and maybe eagles. The North Coast 500 route passes nearby at Tongue.
Within an hour's drive you've got a lot. The Falls of Shin near Lairg, where you can see salmon leaping. Golf at Royal Dornoch. Smoo Cave and the beach at Durness. Dunrobin Castle is to the southeast. The Strathnaver Trail, which covers a lot of clearance history, starts here and ends at the museum in Bettyhill.
The property is rated 4 Star. It's wheelchair accessible at the entrance. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, I'm afraid.
