The Old Court House

The Old Court House is in Silloth, right by the sea front. It's a big old building that used to be a courthouse, set back just from the promenade. It sleeps six. Three bedrooms: one king size, one double, and a twin room. It's got two bathrooms, both are modern.

The rating is 4 Star. It's clean and well looked after, not a run-down holiday let. The stairs are normal, not too steep. There's a proper garden at the front with a seating area.

You can bring two dogs. The town is flat, so it's easy walking. There's a children's park right opposite the house. The promenade is cobbled. You can see the Solway Firth and the Scottish hills from there.

Silloth itself is quiet. There's a supermarket, a few cafes and pubs. The golf course is good, they say it's one of the top hundred in England. You'd need to book a tee time.

The beach is sandy and clean, just a few minutes' walk. It's good for birdwatching. The RSPB has a wetlands centre nearby if you're keen. You can sometimes see porpoises from the promenade.

For a day out, Carlisle is about half an hour's drive. The Lake District is close too. Keswick and the northern lakes are within about 40 minutes. Hadrian's Wall is also reachable, maybe 45 minutes to an hour depending on which bit you go to.

Practical things: there's parking for two cars on the drive. It has a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. The main entrance has no steps.
