Cwmcarn Cottage is in Risca, in a valley just outside Newport. It's a stone cottage, set back from the road. You've got front and back gardens, both enclosed.
It sleeps five across three bedrooms upstairs. There's just the one bathroom, which is a shower room on the ground floor. The stairs are typical cottage stairs, so a bit steep.
The living room has a wood burner. The kitchen has a dishwasher. There's a separate dining room. It's a 4 Star rating, so it's well equipped and comfortable. It keeps the cottage feel but with modern bits you need, like the Wi-Fi.
You can bring two dogs. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if you need it, and parking on site.
The location is the main thing. You're a five minute drive from the Cwmcarn Forest visitor centre. You can walk it from the cottage but it's uphill. The forest drive is great for views and there are miles of trails for walking and mountain biking. Sirhowy Country Park is also on your doorstep for a gentler walk.
In Risca there are shops, takeaways, and a couple of pubs that do food, all within walking distance. The train station is about a 12 minute walk away, which gets you into Newport or Cardiff quite easily.
By car, you're about 20 minutes from Newport, 30 from Cardiff city centre, and 40 from the coast at Cardiff Bay or Barry. The Brecon Beacons National Park is about a 40 minute drive north if you want proper mountains.
