Druimbhan is the first of the Railway Cottages in Lochailort. It's up a single track lane, next to a little burn. You're right on the edge of the village, basically in the woods.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's a 4 Star, so it's comfortable and well looked after. Everything's on one level, which is handy. You come in into a hall. Kitchen's to the right, it's bright and has what you need. Bathroom's opposite. The living room's at the end, with a wood burner, a sofa and a table. There's a utility room next to it with space for coats and boots.
The bedroom's at the back. It has windows on two sides. One looks over the burn, the other towards a small waterfall. You can hear the water running. It's a nice sound.
The railway line is about 200 yards away. You can sometimes hear the train, but it's not a mainline, it's the West Highland Line to Mallaig. It's the one that goes over the Glenfinnan Viaduct up the road. You have to flag it down to stop here, or book ahead. It's not like a normal station.
Outside, there's a bit of garden. You can walk up past the cottage a little way along the burn. It's quite shaded with trees. There's an outside tap and a hose, useful for washing off muddy boots or a dog.
We take one well-behaved dog. There's a dog bed and a bowl here for them. Please keep them off the furniture.
The local inn is a short walk, maybe three minutes. It does food and drink, but it's seasonal, open Easter to October. There's another pub about nine miles away in Glenfinnan. The drive there is spectacular.
Mallaig is about half an hour's drive west. It's a proper fishing port. You can get the ferry from there over to Armadale on Skye if you want. The road to Mallaig goes past Arisaig, where there are some beautiful white sand beaches. Going the other way, Fort William is about 45 minutes. Glenfinnan and the viaduct are 15 minutes away. Eilean Donan Castle is about an hour's drive, over the Skye Bridge.
For planning, useful sites are The West Highland Line for train info and National Trust for Scotland Glenfinnan.
Facilities here: WiFi, washing machine, wood burner with an initial supply of logs, parking right outside, all bedding and towels included. The heating is electric.
