This is Keepers Cottage in Durisdeer. It's a semi-detached place, one of two cottages there. It's up in the Lowther Hills, so it's very quiet. The village is just a little green with a church. Nothing else. So if you want shops or a pub, you need to drive to Thornhill. That's about ten minutes away.
It was all redone a couple of years ago, so it's in very good order. It's a five star place, which really just means everything is new and works properly. It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs: one double and one twin. The bathroom is upstairs too. It's one of those where they've put a roll-top bath in the main bedroom. It's a feature, I suppose.
Downstairs is a kitchen and a living room with a wood burner. The garden is enclosed. It's not huge, but it's nice. Very peaceful. You'll see deer and hares. And at night, because there's no light pollution, the stars are very clear.
There's an outdoor wood-fired sauna you can use. You have to request it in advance and there's a charge for the wood. They'll show you how it works when you arrive.
Things to do: it's really for walking and cycling. You can walk straight from the door into the hills. Drumlanrig Castle is about a twenty minute drive. Good for a day out. They've got gardens, mountain bike trails, and a cafe. For a longer drive, you can get down to the Solway coast in about forty-five minutes.
What's here: parking right outside. Washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, all the bedding and towels. You can bring two dogs. The garden is fully enclosed.
