Laxdale Cottage is in Leverburgh, right down the southern end of the Isle of Harris. It's a detached bungalow, so all on one level. You've got your own parking space right outside.
It's a good size for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which is about right. It means it's clean and comfortable, not high-end. There's a washer, WiFi, and bedding is included.
The layout is a bit different. You come in through the front porch into the main living room. The kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom are all off that room. It means the bedroom isn't private from the living area, so it's just for couples or friends who don't mind that.
The local shop, which is community-run, is a few minutes' drive away. It's well-stocked and sells fuel. There's a pier about five minutes walk down the road, where you can get the ferry over to Uist. The Isle of Harris Brewery is right at the pier. They do food and sometimes have music.
The beaches are the main thing here. Scarista beach is the closest, just a few minutes by car. Luskentyre is maybe ten minutes north. They are stunning. Do check the conditions if you're swimming or going in the water, as the currents can be strong. The sand can be soft in places too.
If you want to explore further, the whole of Harris and Lewis is accessible from here. There's the Callanish Stones, various tweed weavers, and lots of history. The ferry to St Kilda leaves from the marina at Leverburgh, but that's a special trip you'd need to book well ahead.
