Riverbank Cottage Althorpe

Riverbank Cottage is in Althorpe, Lincolnshire. It's detached, so no neighbours on either side. The name's right: it's on the bank of the River Trent. You can watch it go by from the sitting room.

The place sleeps eight. Four bedrooms in total, and two bathrooms. We've got the 4 Star rating. There's a twin room and a shower room downstairs, which is handy.

Upstairs, there's a double, another twin, and a small room for children. That one has a small single bed and a pull-out bed, but it's really only for kids, not adults. The stairs are normal.

The kitchen's decent. There's a separate utility room with the washing machine. You've got a TV snug as well as the main sitting room.

The garden's enclosed, which is good if you've got a dog. We take one pet. The patio faces south, so you get the sun. There's garden furniture, a BBQ, and space to store bikes. Parking is for one, maybe two cars if you're careful, but the drive is only eight feet wide.

Althorpe itself is quiet. The village pub is gone, but there's a good one called the Ferryboat in the next village along. The nearest shop is about a mile away. For anything else, you go up to the A18, about three miles.

You can walk along the river. There are cycle routes too. For a day out, Normanby Hall is nearby. The Yorkshire Wildlife Park is popular, about a half hour drive. Epworth, where John Wesley was from, is close if you like history.

Lincoln's a great city, less than an hour away. You can also get to York, Beverley, or Hull within the hour if you fancy a trip.

In terms of stuff here, it's all listed. Wifi, dishwasher, woodburner, cot and highchair if you need them. Bedding is included.
