Mingro is on Rothiesholm Beach, Stronsay, Orkney. It's a traditional stone cottage, detached. You can see the sea from the back door, and at high tide it's right there.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's clean and comfortable but basic. There's no Wi-Fi or TV. You come here to get away from all that.
You need to know about the journey. You take two ferries: one from the mainland to Orkney, then another from Kirkwall to Stronsay. Or you can fly from Kirkwall. It's a proper trip. Once you're on Stronsay, the cottage is five miles from the pier.
The beach is just outside. It's quiet. The island has long sandy bays and a lot of coastline to walk. There's an impressive sea arch called the Vat of Kirbister, and you can see puffins at certain times of year.
There's a shop and a pub in Whitehall village, which is five miles away. That's where the heritage centre is too, if you're interested in the herring fishing history.
What's here: a woodburning stove, an enclosed garden, parking, a washing machine, and bedding and towels are provided. You can bring one dog.
