Keith House is my place in Thurso. It's a stone town house, built in the 1800s. It's centre of town, semi-detached and on three floors. You get a small, enclosed courtyard garden out the back.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. One double on the first floor, then two twin rooms up on the top floor. There's one bathroom with a separate shower room on that same first floor. It's a 4 Star rating, so it's well looked after and comfortable. The stairs are the original ones, so they're a proper old house staircase. Quite steep and winding. You need to be okay with that.
You're right in the middle of things. There's a pub about thirty yards away, a restaurant fifty yards, and a shop one hundred yards. All very handy. The beach for surfing is a short walk. Dunnet Beach, which is spectacular, is a drive.
The kitchen and dining room are on the ground floor. French doors go out to the courtyard. The main living room is up on the first floor. There's a second, smaller sitting room up there too with a TV.
You can walk to the harbour and there are riverside walks from the door. For longer trips, John o' Groats is about twenty miles. The ferry to Orkney goes from Scrabster, which is just next to Thurso. If you're into ancient sites, the Historic Environment Scotland website is useful for planning. The North Coast 500 route goes right past the door.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Parking is on the nearby street, it's free. We take up to two pets.
