The Birches

The Birches is in a place called Redburn, near a hamlet called Ardclach. It's a single-storey cottage we built ourselves a while back, so it's all on one level which is handy. It's detached and sits in its own bit of birch wood. You get a clear view over the fields from the back.

It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which helps when you've got a few people. One bathroom is en-suite to the main bedroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean and modern, just how we like it.

The garden is fully enclosed, which is good if you're bringing a dog or have kids. It's mostly lawn. Inside, the main room is open plan with the kitchen and living area, split by a low brick wall. There's a separate dining room and another sitting room at the other end, so people can spread out.

You're quite remote here. The nearest shop and a pub are about seven miles away in Nairn. Nairn itself is a nice seaside town with a good beach and a promenade. You can sometimes see dolphins from the harbour. For a bigger town, Inverness is about half an hour's drive east. That's where you'll find the main shops and things.

Locally, there's a fishing loch half a mile up the lane if that's your thing. You'll see deer around, and if you're lucky you might spot a pine marten. For history, Culloden Battlefield is about a 20-minute drive. Cawdor Castle is similar. The coastline around here is a nature reserve.

In terms of what's here: all the bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, a TV, a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking for a couple of cars right outside. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
