Avebury Cottage is right next to the church in Avebury. It's a thatched place, old and whitewashed, built in 1724. It looks over the churchyard and Avebury Manor.
It sleeps five. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The ceilings are low and beamed, which is nice but you'll need to mind your head in a couple of spots. The stairs are cottage stairs, so they're steep and a bit twisty. There's a wood burner in the living room. The garden is private and quiet.
The stones are about a two minute walk away. You can see the stone circle from the end of the garden. The village itself is owned by the National Trust.
There's a village shop and a pub, The Red Lion, about five minutes walk. They both do the job. The pub does food.
For walking, you're right on the Ridgeway and the White Horse Trail. You can walk out to Silbury Hill or West Kennet Long Barrow from here. It's all very open.
Devizes is 15 minutes by car. That's where the Caen Hill locks are on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Marlborough is the same distance the other way, a nice town for shops. Savernake Forest is just past Marlborough.
Further out, Stonehenge is about half an hour. So is Lacock Abbey, which you might recognise from films. Bath is around 45 minutes if you fancy the city and the Roman Baths.
Facilities are straightforward. It's detached, there's WiFi, a TV, a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring two dogs. There's parking on the lane by the cottage.
