The Old Dye House

The Old Dye House is in Halistra, up on the Waternish peninsula on Skye. It's a detached cottage next to our house. You'll have it to yourselves. It faces seaward. On a clear day, you can see right out to the Outer Hebrides.

It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and done up well, not just basic. It's all on one level, which is good for access. The main room is open plan.

The cottage is warm. There's a wood burning stove. You've got a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are in there. Parking is right outside.

It's quiet here. The nearest pub and restaurant is about a mile and a half away. The proper shop is in Portree, which is about 21 miles, so you'll want to come with supplies.

For local things, there's a sheepskin tannery that does tours, some art galleries, and the oldest inn on Skye is nearby. The sunsets from this end of the island are very good.

You're about half an hour's drive from most things on Skye. Portree has the shops and places to eat. Dunvegan Castle and its gardens are close. The walk from there to Coral Beach is worth it.

The Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing up on the Trotternish ridge are within easy reach for a walk. They're as dramatic as the pictures. For something greener, the Sleat peninsula to the south is known as the garden of Skye.

You can bring up to two dogs. We ask that they stay off the furniture.
